MoviEscape Stockport – Sawtopsy
The Team: TDM, J, P, C
We’d been invited along by J, P, & C for some spooky goings on at MoviEscape Stockport. Mr Carrot couldn’t make it, so we were going as a team of four tackling the SAW movie franchise inspired Sawtopsy. The location was an old Mill, down a dark road, which felt like it was in the middle of nowhere… perfect!
You wake to find yourself in a dirty, dark bathroom with several others. You have one hour to solve the puzzles and work out who is the killer. If you do not succeed, you will be locked in the room… forever.
The theming in Sawtopsy was great, and it looked exactly as you’d expect – like a skanky abandoned changing room with a toilet. While I’m sure the dirt and general unpleasantness was cosmetic, it was a bit nasty at times putting your hands in certain places. All part of the fun!
The actual game turned into a bit of a whodunit as the story progressed, which was both through messages from our kidnapper via the TV screen in the room, and also through the puzzles. There was also a nice twist towards the end which brought the two together in a satisfying way.
As far as the puzzles in the room went, I don’t think there was anything really ground breaking that we hadn’t encountered in some form before, but what we did find was a good series of coherent, logical problems which most importantly, made sense. I actually think we may have missed a couple of clue items along the way, but we’d had enough information to solve the bits they would have related to without them.
We always seemed to be making progress and didn’t really get held up at all for any great periods, so we rattled through in what seemed like no time at all.
A good solid room, with excellent construction and atmosphere.
