Escapism Chester – Espionage

Venue: Escapism Chester
Room: Espionage
The Team: TDM, Mr Carrot
Date: 25/08/2017
We’d been there on Monday, again on Wednesday, and now here we were back at Escapism Chester on Friday. They must have been getting sick of the sight of us by now but we were locked in on a mission and ready for a bit of Espionage.
The Story:
You’ve been trusted to retrieve some sensitive data but this everyday apartment isn’t what it seems. You’ve found the safe, now you need the key: this is no ordinary game of ‘finders keepers’.
The room in Espionage is decorated very much like what I’d describe as a home office – comfy sofa, filing cabinets, desk, etc. which suits the story well. As far as the puzzles went there were actually quite a few nice simple, logical ones which we sailed through with no problems, which made a nice change as that’s where we usually struggle.
This time however, we really hit a brick wall with one particular one which made use of the ‘clue screen’. We found it really hard, but when we were really spoon fed clues and finally had the answer pretty much given to us it made perfect sense. Felt a bit silly once it clicked.
I think this was possibly another bought in room, which Escapism Chester had once again customised with a nice scene setting intro video which personalised it to our location, which some of the puzzles also did.
Our favourite bit was near the end where there was a task that involved a certain amount of physical dexterity, which let’s just say we’re not exactly built for. We wasted a few minutes laughing and shouting ‘have you seen us… have you seen that?’ at the cameras before actually attempting it with limited success. I suspect we didn’t actually complete it exactly to the letter of the instructions, but I’m not actually sure we could have, so we’re excusing ourselves for that…
It’s hard to put my finger on exactly what it was that made Espionage so much fun, but as an overall experience we had a great time and found ourselves smiling and laughing all the way through, and I can’t really ask for much more than that!
