Escapism Chester – Area 51

Area 51

Escapism Chester

Venue: Escapism Chester

Room: Area 51

The Team: TDM, Mr Carrot

Date: 23/08/2017

We were only at Escapism Chester two days before, but we were back again. This time myself and Mr Carrot were tackling dodgy goings on in Area 51, so we donned our tinfoil hats to protect ourselves from the mind control rays and set about containing what sounded like an alien virus that had broken out.

The Story:
In a place that doesn’t exist, no one is coming to your rescue. A virus has broken out in one of the top-secret testing facilities and there’s only one way out. Crack the code and escape the lab before it’s too late.

I suspect Area 51 may be another ‘bought in’ room for Escapism Chester, with there being very similar or possibly even identical rooms at other Escape Room venues around the country. This is just an observation and not a criticism though, as it’s a fun room with a good variety of puzzles and an abundance of locks to crack.

When we were chatting to the staff afterwards, they mentioned a comment that had been made from a previous escapee that the room is more a series of alien themed puzzles to progress through rather than a complete storyline that flows through, and I think this is probably a fair assessment.

It was also mentioned that someone had remarked about one item in particular being out of place for the room (a musical item), but I didn’t find this to be the case at all. With the puzzle it’s involved in it fits perfectly with the alien theme, even in the laboratory setting once you work it out and use it.

I think we managed this room with less clues than usual (probably still loads of them though), and when we did get them it they were mainly for the obvious stuff. I don’t remember the exact wording of one of them, but it was along the lines of ‘Try looking around the room’ as we’d missed something blatantly obvious right in front of our faces. Again!

It was nice to meet Dave too, but he looked a bit under the weather…

Result: Escaped in 45 minutes
