Escapism Chester – Amphitheatre

Venue: Escapism Chester
Room: Amphitheatre
The Team: TDM, Mr Carrot, J, C, P
Date: 21/08/2017
This was our second visit to Escapism Chester where we once again received a warm and friendly welcome. For the room this time, we’d teamed up with J, C, & P to tackle the Amphitheatre.
The Story:
The roar of the Amphitheatre rumbles through your cell as thousands mercilessly bay for blood. The Roman guards are on their way to take you into the Gladiators’ arena but you still have time to avoid this gory fate. Escape your cell and have your vengeance.
It was perhaps fate that made us choose to tackle this room on a team up with J, C, & P, as the first thing that happens is you get split into two teams! This made for the need to work out puzzles by shouting to people in the next cell that you couldn’t actually see which certainly made an interesting and different start to the room, but we were soon reunited following solving a few things.
Puzzle wise, it once again all seemed logical and made sense which is always my main concern in a room. I don’t mind failing fairly if I simply can’t work something sensible out, but it bugs me when crazy leaps of (non) logic are required. No problems like that here though, at it passed the ‘does it make sense’ test with flying colours.
There were a few nicely hidden objects that you also had to find along the way so our searching skills were also given a bit of a workout, and towards the end there was a very nice use of hidden tech, which meant it kept well in with the theme of the room.
I mentioned in my review of the previous room we’d done here, Taken, that I thought it had probably been bought in, and I think that Amphitheatre may be the first original room that Escapism Chester have created, as it appeared custom designed for the Chester setting (I may be wrong on this, but I’ve not seen another similar theme anywhere).
We flew through the room pretty quickly needing only a few clues this time, which may be down to the larger team than usual, or may just be that J, C, & P are a lot better at these rooms than myself and Mr Carrot! The latter seems more likely…
All in all a great room which we thoroughly enjoyed.
